To start off this blog post, I thought it would be important to specify exactly what an elopement looks like for those who don’t know!! The majority of people immediately think of eloping as running away and getting married alone and in secret. And while that was the case a while ago, it’s much different now. Eloping today usually involves a small ceremony with close family and friends, and intentional planning in the areas that matter most to you.

Eloping is for couples who feel that they don’t need a big, extravagant wedding with hundreds of guests and would prefer something more intimate and focused on them.

Here are some reasons I absolutely love elopements and intimate weddings!!

1. LESS STRESS

Elopements allow the couple to relax and focus on what matters most to them. Wedding planning can be so overwhelming with long guest lists and expenses, having an elopement eases so much of that stress and planning. Because your wedding is supposed to be FUN not stressful!!

2. THE DAY IS ALL ABOUT YOU

Most couples invite their close friends and family to their elopement so they can still spend the day with people they love, but there’s a much smaller guest list. I love how elopements focus so much more on the couple. The day isn’t about anything else but YOU.

3. INVESTMENT

Less planning allows you to put your money into what matters most to you. With a big wedding, your expenses will add up veryyy quickly. And you may even find yourself spending thousands of dollars on things you don’t care about that much. Having a more intimate wedding allows you to pick a few things you really want to invest in.

4. LOCATION OPTIONS

You can get married literally anywhere you want!! If you want a big wedding at a venue, that’s totally okay! If you’d rather get married on a mountaintop, travel somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit, or get married at a spot that’s super special to you, then an elopement is for you!! 

5. AMAZING PHOTOS

Okay I just had to include this one!! With more freedom to choose your location and the focus on you and your spouse over anything else, your photos will be BOMB and a true reflection of your relationship!!

Elopements are definitely not for everyone, but I see so many couples plan a big wedding just because they feel like they have to, and you should never feel like you have to!! It’s YOUR wedding, so do things the untraditional way if that feels right.
